Founded in September 1995 by a dedicated group of African American lawyers, the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL) emerged from a shared commitment to the principles of the National Bar Association and a vision to establish a local chapter that would serve Minneapolis, Minnesota and beyond. What began as a grassroots effort has evolved into a leading minority bar association with a mission centered on three core pillars: promoting and supporting the professional growth of Black lawyers, judges, and law students; addressing the legal challenges facing the Black community; and advancing education, excellence, and racial equity throughout the pursuit of justice. MABL represents more than a professional organization—it embodies a community of legal professionals united by shared values and a commitment to meaningful change. The organization fosters genuine connections among members through regular events, an annual membership meeting, community gatherings like the Annual Picnic, and collaborative committee work. MABL's scholarship programs demonstrate its investment in the future of the profession, providing financial support and mentorship to promising law students.
