About Mustard Seed Generation, Inc.

Mustard Seed Generation was founded by Dr. Josephine Myong Hwa Kim in response to the mental health crisis that emerged within the Korean American community following the Virginia Tech tragedy in 2007. Operating from Dallas, Texas, this faith-based nonprofit organization exists to spark meaningful dialogue around mental health in the Korean American community and bring hope, healing, and reconciliation across the entire population. The organization's name draws inspiration from a biblical parable in the book of Matthew, symbolizing how small seeds of awareness and action can grow into significant change. MSG was relaunched in 2017 by a dedicated team of Korean graduate students from the Harvard Graduate School of Education who recognized the deep hunger within Korean American families, youth, and church leaders for open conversations about holistic well-being. The organization partners with like-minded professionals and organizations across the nation to serve the community, fighting against concerning statistics that show Korean Americans are three times less likely to seek professional help than white Americans, often due to cultural stigma and lack of awareness. Through their work, MSG has created a safe, supportive space where Korean Americans can address hidden hurts, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges without judgment. Based in Dallas and connected to networks nationwide, Mustard Seed Generation represents a compassionate movement dedicated to normalizing mental health conversations and providing resources that honor both the cultural identity and mental wellness needs of Korean Americans.
