About National Congress of Black Women
Founded on a vision of equality and empowerment, the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. operates from Washington, DC as a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing Black women, their families, and communities. Driven by the belief that Black women deserve equal rights in every aspect of life, NCBW vigorously advocates for systemic change while building grassroots support through over 100 chapters across the nation.
At its core, NCBW is about connection and transformation. The organization recognizes issues often overlooked in communities of color—from immigration reform to human trafficking to housing access—and mobilizes members to address these challenges collaboratively. Through women's advocacy initiatives, NCBW encourages voter registration, entrepreneurship, and leadership development at national, state, and local levels, enabling women to gain knowledge and participate meaningfully in educational, economic, and civic arenas.
What sets NCBW apart is its holistic approach to women's wellbeing and success. Beyond economic initiatives, the organization prioritizes health equity through mental health awareness programs and agricultural initiatives, recognizes the needs of people with disabilities, and creates safe spaces for women to grow their networks and skills. Operating from Washington, DC, NCBW's mission extends across the country through dedicated members and volunteers who understand that empowering Black women strengthens entire communities. The organization's commitment to nonpartisan advocacy ensures that all voices are heard and represented in conversations about policy, leadership, and opportunity.
