National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance
About National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance
The National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance represents a vital community institution rooted in generations of resistance, resilience, and collective care-making among LGBTQ+ Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Established in 2005 through a roundtable of national LGBTQ+ AAPI organization leaders, NQAPIA emerged from the recognition that local groups across the country were doing tremendous work while facing common organizational challenges that could be addressed through collaboration and shared resources. Today, operating from New York, NY, NQAPIA continues this legacy of solidarity and mutual aid.
At its heart, NQAPIA is committed to supporting intergenerational family rebuilding and engagement, honoring the diverse kinship structures that sustain LGBTQ+ Asian and Pacific Islander communities. The organization embodies an intersectional approach to justice and equity, recognizing that liberation must address the overlapping systems of oppression affecting the communities it serves. NQAPIA's work is deeply embedded in community-centered values, with a focus on growing collective power rather than centralizing authority.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the fastest-growing community in LGBTQ+ America, NQAPIA prioritizes authentic representation of LGBTQ+ AANHPI voices and leadership in all spaces—from research and policy to resource allocation and movement strategy. The organization works across the nation and U.S. territories to ensure that LGBTQ+ Asian and Pacific Islander communities are centered, heard, and resourced in the broader movement for liberation and justice.
