National Trans Bar Association
About National Trans Bar Association
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, the National Trans Bar Association represents a vital community of legal professionals committed to advancing trans rights and supporting underrepresented voices in the legal field. The NTBA is a bar association by and for trans legal professionals and cisgender allies who share a deep commitment to supporting trans people both within and outside the legal profession. The organization deliberately welcomes individuals who have historically been marginalized in law, including trans and cisgender women and femmes, people of color, people who have experienced poverty, those with criminal justice system involvement, and members of immigrant communities. Members work across the full spectrum of legal practice—from government positions to nonprofit social justice organizations to private law firms—united by a shared mission to support trans people in the legal profession and increase the trans community's access to affordable, culturally competent legal services. The NTBA's diverse membership hails from different regions across the United States, bringing varied professional experiences and perspectives to the organization's work. Through annual reports, media engagement, and community outreach, the National Trans Bar Association continues to build an inclusive organization that recognizes the intersectional nature of social justice work and fosters bold, creative legal strategies to expand formal protections for transgender and gender nonconforming people.
