Since its founding as part of the National Medical Association in 1895, the New Jersey Medical Association in West Orange, NJ has served as the collective voice for African American physicians and their patients throughout New Jersey. NJMA embodies a commitment to being the conscience of American medicine by actively working to eliminate healthcare disparities and improve health outcomes for minority populations. The organization recognizes that despite African Americans and Hispanics comprising over 25 percent of the U.S. population, they represent less than 15 percent of physicians, and NJMA works to increase representation and recognition of African Americans and other underrepresented minorities in medicine. Beyond professional advocacy, NJMA builds community through member-centered programming, including annual scholarship opportunities, networking events, and health awareness campaigns that resonate with the communities physicians serve. The strength of NJMA relies on individual members who are dedicated to making meaningful impact in medicine and healthcare. By joining NJMA in West Orange, physicians add their voice to a movement focused on closing gaps in healthcare access and quality.
