National Forum for Black Public Administrators Houston Chapter
In April of 1986, a pivotal moment in public administration unfolded as the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) responded to a growing demand for a platform that champions diversity and paves the way for minorities to attain top-tier positions in public administration. This movement saw the birth of seventeen new chapters in key cities across the United States, signifying a nationwide awakening to the need for inclusive leadership. Amidst this wave of expansion, Houston emerged as a key player, inaugurating its own chapter on June 6, 1986. True to the adage "Everything's bigger in Texas," the Houston Chapter encapsulates this spirit not just in size but in its aspirations and achievements. Reflecting the city's own rapid population growth, sprawling geographic expanse, and burgeoning job market, the Houston Chapter has distinguished itself as one of the largest, most dynamically growing, and consistently award-winning chapters within the NFBPA. At the heart of our mission are three core aims: Professional Development, Scholarship, and Service. We are dedicated to cultivating the next generation of public administration leaders through comprehensive professional development initiatives. Our scholarship programs aim to support and elevate aspiring public administrators, providing them with the resources and opportunities to excel in their careers. Furthermore, our commitment to service sees us actively engaging in and contributing to our communities, reinforcing our pledge to not only lead in public administration but to serve as stewards of positive change in society. Through these endeavors, the NFBPA Greater Houston Chapter stands as a beacon of progress, inclusivity, and excellence in public administration, continually striving to expand its impact and legacy in the field.
