About Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association

Founded in 1978, the Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association represents over four decades of commitment to advancing women in the legal profession throughout Reno, Nevada. The organization was established by legal pioneers who recognized the need for a supportive community where women attorneys could develop their careers and overcome systemic barriers in the legal field. With roots tracing back to 1893 when Laura May Tilden became the first woman to pass the Nevada Bar Exam, NNWLA honors that pioneering spirit while actively working to create pathways for the next generation of legal professionals.

The association's mission extends beyond individual advancement to encompass the entire legal community. NNWLA is dedicated to maintaining the honor and integrity of the profession, promoting the administration of justice, and fostering a spirit of friendship and trust among members. Based in Reno, the organization recognizes that while significant progress has been made, challenges remain in achieving full gender parity within Nevada's legal profession.

NNWLA welcomes all members of the legal profession—men and women, lawyers and non-lawyers—creating an inclusive community united by shared values. Through events, mentorship, and professional support, the association celebrates the achievements of pioneering women in law while actively promoting those who will shape the future of the profession. By becoming part of NNWLA, members join a compassionate network dedicated to breaking down barriers, building professional relationships, and ensuring that the legal community in Northern Nevada remains vibrant, equitable, and committed to justice.
