Orange County Japanese American Association
About Orange County Japanese American Association
For nearly four decades, the Orange County Japanese American Association has been a vital community anchor in Tustin, serving the Japanese American population with culturally sensitive, bilingual support since 1986. As the only organization of its kind in Orange County, OCJAA understands the unique needs of Japanese and Japanese American families, seniors, and individuals navigating life in Southern California. The organization's mission centers on creating moments of happiness and belonging through both practical assistance and cultural celebration. OCJAA's Senior Shiawase Project exemplifies this commitment, providing monthly nutritious bentos to isolated seniors, creating safe spaces for caregivers to connect and share experiences, and honoring the life achievements of seniors aged 80 and over. Beyond senior care, OCJAA strengthens the broader community through cultural fairs, educational seminars, scholarship opportunities for students, and recognition programs that celebrate community leaders. The organization provides critical referral services, health information, and counseling to help families access resources during challenging times. By maintaining strong connections between Japanese American residents and essential services, family networks, and cultural traditions, OCJAA fosters a sense of belonging and reminds community members they are valued. The organization welcomes new members and remains committed to its foundational belief that social services and cultural engagement are inseparable components of community wellbeing in Tustin and throughout Orange County.
