About Orange County Turkish American Association

Founded in 2004, the Orange County Turkish American Association (OCTAA) has grown to become a cornerstone organization for the Turkish American community in Irvine and Orange County, California. This grassroots non-profit was established with a clear mission: to represent, support, and celebrate Turkish Americans while educating the broader Orange County community about Turkey's rich cultural heritage. What sets OCTAA apart is its commitment to intergenerational connection—the organization recognizes that preserving Turkish culture requires active engagement from both longtime community members and new arrivals. Through its affiliation with the American Turkish Association of Southern California (ATASC), OCTAA connects local families to a larger network of Turkish American organizations, strengthening community bonds across Southern California. At the heart of OCTAA's work is the Orange County Turkish School, a program born from the community's desire to ensure children grow up fluent in Turkish and connected to their cultural roots. The biweekly classes welcome learners of all ages, from young children taking their first steps in the language to adults seeking to deepen their proficiency or reconnect with their heritage. Beyond the classroom, OCTAA creates spaces where Turkish Americans can gather, share experiences, and celebrate their identity together. For nearly two decades, the organization has been instrumental in helping the Turkish American community in Irvine maintain its cultural identity while fostering understanding and appreciation among neighbors of all backgrounds.
