About Oregon Association of Latino Administrators

Since 2002, the Oregon Association of Latino Administrators has served as a transformative force for Latino educators and school leaders throughout Oregon, with roots in the Cornelius area and connections across the state. What began as a small gathering of dedicated administrators from the Portland Metropolitan area has evolved into a statewide organization recognized for its commitment to educational equity and systemic change. OALA's founding members understood that Latino educators needed intentional support, mentorship, and community to successfully navigate pathways to leadership in Oregon schools. The organization's mission centers on promoting educational equity for all students, with particular focus on Latino youth, while creating spaces where Latino administrators feel affirmed and supported in their work. OALA members consistently report that the organization's voices and community affirm their commitment to educational equity, with protégé program participants describing the experience as transformative and deeply beneficial. The organization emphasizes what it calls "positive resistance" and leading systemic transformation with love—a philosophy reflected in its 21-year tradition of bringing educators together for meaningful professional connection and growth. Operating in Cornelius and throughout Oregon, OALA has built partnerships with major school districts, Lewis & Clark College, and national education organizations, all united by the shared belief that Latino leadership strengthens Oregon's schools. Members describe OALA as a place where they are supported "every step of the way," creating a community of practice dedicated to ensuring that Oregon's diverse students receive excellent education from leaders who understand their experiences and aspirations.
