Founded as a student organization at the University of Kentucky College of Law in Lexington, Kentucky, OUTLaw represents a commitment to inclusivity and support within legal education. The organization creates a safe, welcoming space where law students of all gender identities and sexual orientations can connect, share experiences, and explore the evolving landscape of LGBTQ rights and issues within the legal system.
OUTLaw embodies the values of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law, an institution with over a century of service to Kentucky and a legacy of pioneering legal education. Since its founding in 1908, the college has been instrumental in shaping Kentucky's legal profession and advancing the rule of law. OUTLaw extends this tradition by fostering community among LGBTQ law students and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue about identity, law, and social justice.
The organization is led by dedicated student leaders including President Lilly Coiner, Vice-President TC Housman, and other elected officers who work collaboratively to plan events, facilitate discussions, and build community connections. Under the mentorship of Faculty Advisor Prof. Mark Kightlinger, OUTLaw maintains an active presence in the Lexington, KY legal community and within the broader law school.
