About Permanent Mission of Colombia to the Organization of American States
Colombia's presence at the Organization of American States in Washington, DC extends back to the organization's founding in 1948, when the Colombian government helped establish what would become the hemisphere's foremost political and social forum. The Permanent Mission embodies Colombia's long-standing commitment to the OAS Charter's vision of fostering peace, justice, and solidarity throughout the Americas. Rooted in the diplomatic heritage of the IX International American Conference held in Bogotá, Colombia's mission in Washington, DC continues to represent the nation's values of democratic governance, human rights protection, and regional security. The mission operates within a community of 35 independent American states and numerous permanent observer nations, working collaboratively to address hemispheric challenges. By participating in the OAS's foundational pillars—democracy, human rights, security, and development—Colombia's representatives in Washington, DC maintain active engagement with neighboring nations and international partners in pursuit of shared prosperity. The mission reflects Colombia's dedication to strengthening inter-American bonds and contributing to the collective well-being of the Western Hemisphere through sustained diplomatic engagement and principled multilateral cooperation.
