About PFLAG Asheville
PFLAG Asheville, established in 2018, is part of a national grassroots movement that began over 50 years ago when Jeanne Manford attended a parade with her gay son and was moved to support others facing similar family circumstances. Based in Arden, NC, this chapter carries forward that legacy of compassion and advocacy by serving families, allies, and LGBTQ individuals who are seeking connection and understanding. The organization envisions a world where inclusion is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed in their authentic selves. By meeting people where they are and collaborating with community partners, PFLAG Asheville realizes its mission through three essential pillars: providing emotional and practical support to families and allies, educating both members and the broader community about LGBTQ issues, and advocating for policies and laws that achieve full equality. The chapter's team of dedicated volunteers creates spaces where parents, extended family, and friends can find solace, share experiences, and access resources tailored to their needs. PFLAG Asheville represents part of PFLAG National's vast network of over 400 chapters with 200,000 supporters across all 50 states, embodying a commitment to transforming hearts and minds in communities like Arden. For those navigating questions about LGBTQ identity within their families, PFLAG Asheville offers both practical support and the assurance of a compassionate community.
