PFLAG Athens Area is a community-based organization dedicated to building bridges of understanding and acceptance for LGBTQIA+ people and those who love them in the greater Athens, Georgia region. Rooted in the legacy of PFLAG National, which has served as the nation's largest family and ally organization since 1973, the Athens Area chapter brings this decades-long commitment to local communities. The organization recognizes that families come in all forms and that love transcends traditional boundaries. PFLAG Athens Area meets monthly to foster genuine human connection—creating spaces where parents, friends, and family members can talk openly, support one another, and collectively advocate for queer individuals in Athens and surrounding counties. The group's mission centers on education, mutual support, and speaking up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value, and affirm LGBTQI+ individuals in all aspects of their identity. From sexual development and sexual orientation to gender identity and gender expression, PFLAG Athens Area embraces an intersectional approach that celebrates the full diversity of human experience. By joining this welcoming community of allies and loved ones, members become part of a movement that extends far beyond Athens—connected to a network of 400 chapters and 200,000 supporters nationwide.
