Founded on the principle that families, friends, and neighbors can create meaningful change, PFLAG Cambridge embodies a legacy of love and acceptance rooted in the organization's 1973 founding by a mother supporting her gay son. Today, PFLAG Cambridge serves as a vital community anchor for southeastern Wisconsin, bringing together LGBTQ+ individuals, their loved ones, and allies in small towns and rural areas around Cambridge, WI where such resources are often limited.
What distinguishes PFLAG Cambridge is its deep commitment to the specific context of rural and small-town life in Wisconsin. The organization recognizes the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people in these communities and responds with culturally responsive programming and genuine peer connection. Members process shared experiences together—from celebrating milestones like Cambridge's first Pride Storm to collectively responding to anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations and advocating against discriminatory legislation.
PFLAG Cambridge operates as a grassroots volunteer organization where community members drive the mission of support, education, and advocacy. The chapter actively listens to its members' needs, hosting conversations about intersectionality, disability pride, workplace safety, and school support.
