About PFLAG Denver
PFLAG Denver has been leading with love since February 1980, when 35 concerned parents and gay and lesbian family members gathered to organize local support during a time when LGBTQIA resources were scarce and community connections were profoundly limited. Today, as one of nearly 500 local chapters belonging to PFLAG National, PFLAG Denver continues that founding legacy of compassion, advocacy, and transformative community action.
The organization's roots run deep in Denver's LGBTQ history. For 13 consecutive years, PFLAG Denver hosted a monthly HIV/AIDS support group, providing care and advocacy during a period when the nation systematically ignored those afflicted. Those early volunteers answered thousands of letters and staffed phone lines 24/7 to support community members in crisis, demonstrating the power of loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies.
Today, PFLAG Denver's vision remains clear: creating an equitable, inclusive world where every LGBTQIA person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved. The organization's mission centers on building community among loving families, educating themselves and their neighbors, and speaking up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value, and affirm LGBTQ people.
