PFLAG Franklin-Hampshire Chapter, rooted in Amherst, MA, represents a vibrant community of LGBTQIA+ individuals, parents, families, and allies united by love, support, and a commitment to social justice. Since 2008, when a small circle of Western Massachusetts families recognized the need for local advocacy and support, the chapter has grown into an active force for change in the Pioneer Valley community. What began as informal gatherings in Ashfield evolved into a structured 501(c)(3) organization that now serves as a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ support and advocacy in the region.

The chapter's mission extends beyond providing safe meeting spaces—it embodies a powerful statement of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly transgender and nonbinary individuals who face systemic discrimination and marginalization. PFLAG Franklin-Hampshire operates from three core principles: advocacy, education, and support. The organization stands firmly against bigotry and oppression, actively working to lift up LGBTQIA+ voices and celebrate the community's diversity and resilience.

With sister organization TransForming Parents established in 2012 to specifically serve families with transgender and nonbinary children, the chapter demonstrates deep understanding of community needs. The Franklin-Hampshire Chapter maintains an unwavering presence at community events, pride celebrations, and advocacy efforts while managing resources, publishing newsletters, and connecting members with vital community services. Operating primarily through virtual meetings since 2020, the chapter ensures accessibility for all Western Massachusetts residents. Today, PFLAG Franklin-Hampshire Chapter continues its founding vision: building loving families united with LGBTQ+ people and allies, educating communities, and speaking up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect and affirm LGBTQIA+ people.
