PFLAG Pittsburgh
About PFLAG Pittsburgh
Founded on the principle of families leading with love, PFLAG Pittsburgh represents a unified community of LGBTQ people, their families, and allies working together in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Born from the 1973 vision of a mother and her gay son at the national level, PFLAG Pittsburgh carries forward that legacy of compassion and advocacy. The organization's mission centers on building a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies who support one another, while educating communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value, and affirm LGBTQ people. PFLAG Pittsburgh envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. With more than 50 years of experience, PFLAG Pittsburgh continues to fuel an inspiring alliance that keeps relationships strong and families together when someone comes out. The organization recognizes that all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Operating from the Vintage Senior Services location in East Liberty, PFLAG Pittsburgh welcomes all community members to participate at whatever level they are comfortable with. The organization's work spans three core pillars: providing emotional support through groups and warmline services, offering educational opportunities for schools and organizations, and engaging in advocacy to change hearts, minds, and laws. Led by dedicated community members including President David West and supported by committees focused on different aspects of the mission, PFLAG Pittsburgh remains committed to creating meaningful change in the Pittsburgh community.
