PFLAG Sauk Valley
About PFLAG Sauk Valley
Founded in 2006 in Sterling, IL, PFLAG Sauk Valley emerged from a family's personal journey and commitment to community support. When Barb and George Schwamberger and Jane Biddle established this local chapter of PFLAG National, they envisioned creating a caring space for their lesbian daughter and the broader LGBTQ community throughout Northern Illinois. Today, the organization serves as a beacon of acceptance and understanding for Ogle, Lee, and Whiteside counties.
At its heart, PFLAG Sauk Valley is built on the belief that loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies can transform communities. The organization operates entirely on volunteer energy and the principle that many hands make light work. With a dedicated board of educators, public servants, human services professionals, and advocates, PFLAG Sauk Valley brings diverse skills and genuine commitment to its mission.
The organization creates a warm reception and understanding support for LGBTQIA persons regardless of how they identify in terms of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Whether you're seeking peer support, educational resources, or a community of like-minded individuals, PFLAG Sauk Valley welcomes you as part of the PFLAG family. The chapter's vision extends beyond support to active community advocacy, working to speak up until all hearts and minds respect, value, and affirm LGBTQ+ people. PFLAG Sauk Valley represents 40+ years of national LGBTQ advocacy and support, now rooted in the Sterling community.
