Pride Center San Antonio
About Pride Center San Antonio
Pride Center San Antonio was established by a dedicated group of community members who recognized the need for a unified center to support and promote the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and ally community throughout Bexar County. Born from grassroots organizing that began in 2009, the organization operates with a core mission: to create a future where LGBTQ+ people and their families thrive in a community of belonging, where liberation, safety, and dignity are lived realities for all. What distinguishes Pride Center San Antonio is its commitment to being run by LGBTQ+ people, for LGBTQ+ people, ensuring authentic representation and culturally competent service delivery. The Center respects the profound diversity within the community while working to advance collective well-being through advocacy, education, and outreach initiatives. Grounded in research and community feedback, including comprehensive surveys conducted in partnership with Trinity University, Pride Center San Antonio continuously adapts its programming to address documented community needs. The organization has grown from a small volunteer effort to a staffed nonprofit with strategic partnerships, including a fellowship with the University of Minnesota's Interdisciplinary Research Leaders program. Located in the heart of San Antonio's gayborhood, Pride Center San Antonio stands as a visible, welcoming space that affirms the identities and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and families. Their work reflects a deep understanding that community thriving requires sustained commitment to systemic change alongside direct service provision.
