About PrismND
Founded in 2013, PrismND represents a significant milestone for LGBTQ+ inclusion at the University of Notre Dame, located in Notre Dame, IN. As the university's first and only official LGBTQ+ undergraduate student organization, PrismND has become a vital resource for queer students and allies seeking community, support, and belonging within a Catholic university setting. The organization's foundation rests on a deep commitment to creating spaces where students can authentically connect with one another while building awareness about the needs and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community on campus.
At its core, PrismND embodies the university's broader mission of fostering community and belonging by extending that vision specifically to LGBTQ+ students. The organization recognizes that student wellbeing encompasses both moments of celebration and times of challenge, positioning itself as a consistent source of support and joy for members throughout their college experience. Through intentional programming—from casual weekly HangOuts to major annual events—PrismND creates multiple entry points for students to find their people and build lasting connections.
What distinguishes PrismND is its inclusive philosophy that welcomes all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. Both queer students and student allies are equally valued and encouraged to participate in committee work and organizational leadership. By maintaining this open and affirming approach, PrismND has successfully cultivated a thriving community within the Notre Dame, IN campus that demonstrates how LGBTQ+ inclusion can flourish even within traditionally conservative institutional contexts.
