About Puerto Rican Bar Association, Inc.
Founded in 1957, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, Inc. (PRBA) emerged from the vision of pioneering Puerto Rican and Latino attorneys who recognized the need for a supportive community when opportunities for attorneys of color were limited in traditional bar associations. Based in New York, NY, the PRBA was created to offer both personal and professional support to members while addressing the concerns of the rapidly growing Latino community. What began as a small group of lawyers gathering for mutual support has evolved into a robust organization representing hundreds of committed legal professionals.
The PRBA's mission is rooted in a sense of duty to the Puerto Rican community and to honor the legacy of its founders, who fought to ensure that future generations of Puerto Rican and Latino lawyers would have equal rights and privileges. Throughout its 66-year history, the organization has served as a beacon for Latino legal professionals in New York, NY, providing leadership development and community connection. The PRBA represents not only practicing attorneys but also judges, law professors, and law students who share a common interest in addressing issues important to the Puerto Rican and Latino communities.
Each generation of PRBA leadership has reflected the values and challenges of its time, tackling contemporary issues while honoring the contributions of those who came before. The organization's commitment to excellence, community service, and professional integrity has made it one of the oldest and most respected Latino bar associations in the nation, continuing to advance access to justice and opportunity for Puerto Rican and Latino legal professionals.
