QSpot LGBT Community Center
About QSpot LGBT Community Center
Founded in Asbury Park in 2005, QSpot LGBT Community Center has grown into a vital gathering place where New Jersey's LGBTQ+ community and their allies come together to build meaningful connections, find support, and celebrate their identities. What began as a grassroots initiative has evolved into the only standalone LGBT community center in New Jersey to own its building, a testament to the organization's deep roots and commitment to permanence in the Asbury Park community.
QSpot's mission centers on fostering health, well-being, and pride through resources, referrals, education, and outreach that honor the unique experiences of diverse populations. The center welcomes individuals, groups, and families into a safe space designed for social engagement, personal growth, and mutual support. Under the visionary leadership of Executive Director John Mikytuck, whose 30-year career addressing LGBT community issues includes Emmy Award recognition and PBS filmmaking, QSpot has successfully navigated significant challenges while expanding its impact.
The organization's all-volunteer model reflects a deep commitment to community empowerment, with dedicated staff members like Deputy Director Nick Romei and Buddy Program Coordinator Michael Victor bringing decades of combined experience in serving at-risk populations and building collaborative partnerships. QSpot's cultural initiatives, including the QFEST LGBT Film and Digital Media Festival and support for the QSpot Marching and Concerts Bands, demonstrate how the center integrates arts, culture, and community activism. Over 250 people weekly access QSpot's services in Asbury Park, finding not just programs and support, but a true home within the region's most welcoming LGBT community center.
