About Reclaiming Our Rest Retreat - Scholars in Solidarity Conference

Welcome to the Scholars in Solidarity Reclaiming Our Rest Retreat!

Reclaiming Our Rest Retreat is a sacred sanctuary explicitly designed for Black women in academia to step away from the demands of their everyday lives and into a space of intentional rest, reflection, and restoration. Held in the peaceful heart of Texas Hill Country (Houston, TX) from March 19–22, 2026, this multi-day retreat offers a nourishing blend of stillness, creativity, community, and care.

Rooted in the belief that rest is not a luxury but a form of resistance and liberation, this retreat invites participants to slow down, reconnect with their inner selves, and experience rest as a radical and necessary act of healing.

From restorative wellness activities, communal meals, and reflective workshops, the retreat offers an opportunity to unplug from urgency and reconnect with joy, breath, and being.

This retreat is created with Black women educators, scholars, administrators, and change-makers in mind—those who give so much to others and deserve a space where they can simply be.

Where Black Scholars Rise in Community, Healing, Mentorship and Advocacy. We are a space for Black professionals in higher education—and their allies—to be seen, supported, and empowered. Through collective care, mentorship, and bold advocacy, we are transforming academia from the inside out. Scholars in Solidarity exists to empower Black higher education professionals and their allies by fostering a space dedicated to community, healing, mentorship and advocacy in academia. At Scholars in Solidarity, we center the voices, leadership, and well-being of Black women in education. While this is our primary focus, our work is grounded in solidarity and inclusivity—we also uplift other marginalized communities and welcome allies who are committed to justice, equity, and collective liberation. We envision a future where Black women and other marginalized scholars rise in higher education through collective advocacy, holistic healing, intergenerational mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to community. Through these pillars, we cultivate spaces where scholars are not only supported—but truly seen, valued, and empowered to lead from within.
