About San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association
The San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association was founded in 1979 with a vision to advance the Latino community through the voices and advocacy of Latino attorneys. What began as an unincorporated association of approximately twelve attorneys has evolved into a thriving organization representing over three hundred Latino and Latina legal professionals practicing throughout San Diego County. This growth reflects SDLRLA's unwavering commitment to creating meaningful change in the community it serves.
At its core, SDLRLA is built on the principle that unity creates strength. The organization brings together diverse legal professionals—from judges and law professors to elected officials and law students—all united by a shared dedication to equality, empowerment, and justice for Latino attorneys and the broader Latino community. The association actively engages in political advocacy and community engagement, recognizing that effecting real change requires direct engagement with the political and judicial systems.
Beyond professional networking, SDLRLA demonstrates its commitment to community empowerment through substantive action. Since 2001, the organization has invested in law student support through scholarships and mentorship, establishing a separate 501(c)(3) scholarship fund in 2005 to formalize these efforts. By fostering connections between legal professionals and community members in San Diego, SDLRLA creates a supportive ecosystem where Latino attorneys can thrive while contributing to the advancement of their community. The organization's non-partisan approach ensures that its advocacy remains focused on serving the Latino community's interests with integrity and purpose.
