Rooted in Oakland, CA since 1969, the Sinkler Miller Medical Association represents a legacy of physician-led advocacy and community empowerment. Named after two pioneering physicians—Dr. William Sinkler and Dr. Rudolph Miller—who exemplified excellence and dedication to serving the Black community, the organization carries forward their vision of justice, opportunity, and equitable healthcare. The association was established by physicians who recognized the urgent need to unite and uplift doctors from underrepresented backgrounds, creating a supportive professional community in the Bay Area. Today, Sinkler Miller serves as more than a professional organization; it is a movement dedicated to eliminating health disparities and building a more just healthcare system. The organization empowers the health and well-being of individuals within underserved communities through advocacy, healthcare education, and the recruitment and retention of physicians of color. Beyond supporting practicing physicians, Sinkler Miller invests in underrepresented students pursuing medical careers through scholarships, mentoring, and leadership training programs. With over 50 years of steady support and connection for doctors in Oakland and the surrounding region, the association has distributed over $1 million in support to aspiring physicians.
