About South Carolina Equality
Since its founding in 2002, SC Equality has been a steadfast champion for LGBTQ South Carolinians, bringing the voices and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and their allies directly to institutions of power throughout Columbia and the state. The organization's two-decade commitment reflects a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing LGBTQ communities and a proven track record of translating that understanding into tangible progress.
At its core, SC Equality believes that equality takes all of us. The organization inspires, advocates, and mobilizes an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those it serves, recognizing that sustainable change requires community participation at every level. Whether through direct support from individual donors, community volunteers, or elected leaders, SC Equality has cultivated a broad coalition of supporters committed to the vision of a South Carolina where every LGBTQ person is protected and empowered.
The organization's mission extends beyond policy victories to encompassing the lived experiences of LGBTQ South Carolinians. By fostering understanding, shifting hearts and minds, and building community connections, SC Equality creates the cultural foundation necessary for lasting equality. From the courtroom to the capitol to neighborhoods throughout Columbia and beyond, SC Equality remains committed to the fundamental belief that all people deserve to live authentically, with dignity and freedom, in a state that fully recognizes and celebrates their identities.
