Southington Unico
About Southington Unico
For over 80 years, Southington UNICO has been a cornerstone of Italian-American community life in Wallingford, Connecticut. What began in 1944 with 28 dedicated men of Italian origin has grown into a vibrant organization that honors both heritage and service. The chapter traces its roots to the broader UNICO National movement, which began in Waterbury in 1922, establishing a legacy of Italian-American community involvement that continues today.
At its heart, Southington UNICO operates on a simple but powerful philosophy: "Service Above Self." This motto reflects the organization's three fundamental objectives—serving fellow man and community, preserving and celebrating Italian heritage, and supporting educational charitable projects. These values aren't merely words on paper; they guide every activity and decision the organization makes, from community breakfasts to charitable giving to cultural celebrations.
The organization brings together people who share common values and a commitment to making Wallingford and the surrounding region a better place. Members are bound by Italian heritage or family connection, good character, and a genuine desire to contribute to their community. Through regular gatherings, member meetings, and community events, Southington UNICO creates meaningful connections while advancing its mission. The organization's recent recognition with a Certificate of Achievement from UNICO National demonstrates the respect and impact it has earned through decades of dedicated service to the Wallingford community.
