Founded in Miami, Florida in 1974 by Hispanic and Cuban-American residents, the Spanish American League Against Discrimination emerged from a critical need to address the underrepresentation of Hispanics in local schools, government, and the judicial system. What began as a grassroots response to the emerging Hispanic population in South Florida has evolved into a respected community institution dedicated to advancing the common good. SALAD's vision centers on building a prosperous, diverse, and multicultural community where the legitimate rights, aspirations, and contributions of all peoples are protected, promoted, and enhanced. Over nearly four decades, the organization has become instrumental in challenging discriminatory practices while fostering genuine understanding among all ethnic groups in the region. Today, SALAD remains deeply rooted in the Miami community, continuing its mission to advocate for a vibrant South Florida where diversity is valued and inclusion is practiced.
