On behalf of the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR), we cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, April 30th, 2026, at the Rotary Summit Center to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, also known as “Black April.”

The Fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975 marked the end of the Vietnam War and catalyzed the mass exodus of refugees from the Republic of Việt Nam (Việt Nam Cộng Hoà) and Southeast Asia across the world.

The 2026's 51st Commemoration of Black April "Futures After Fifty: Finding Freedom" will be VAR’s 14th Annual Black April Commemoration. The event will feature a stage program with inspiring performances and remarks from community leaders, interactive educational exhibits exploring immigrant and refugee issues, and the opportunity to build community as we continue to remember and reflect upon the past 5 decades of Vietnamese American sacrifices, struggles, and lasting legacies present in San José and across the United States of America.

For this year’s event, doors will open at 4:30 pm, and the program will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public with support from our funders and sponsors. Black attire is encouraged.

The Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. VAR is composed of young professionals and representatives from various Vietnamese American community groups who works collaboratively to research, promote, and support joint programs and projects to benefit the local community. The mission of the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR), founded in 2013 and established in 2017, is to organize, inform, and educate its community about the critical issues that impact their lives. VAR accomplishes this mission by cultivating multigenerational and multilingual opportunities for intergenerational dialogue and healing while highlighting the disproportionate impact of structural inequities and injustice on refugees, immigrants, and their descendants through our youth development programs, educational workshops, and cultural events: such as the inaugural Lunar New Year: San Jose Festival in 2023, and the Annual Commemoration for the Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon (Black April).
