For over two decades, the Taiwanese Student Association at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has served as a vital bridge for Taiwanese students and community members in Champaign, IL. Founded in 2002, TSA was established with a clear mission: to create a welcoming, supportive environment where Taiwanese individuals can recognize one another, help each other, and feel at home far from their native country. The organization envisions itself as a friendly and practical platform that strengthens bonds within the Taiwanese community while promoting cultural understanding across the broader UIUC campus.

At its core, TSA operates on two fundamental pillars—service and culture. As a service-oriented organization, TSA provides direct support to the Taiwanese community through volunteer efforts, practical guidance, and community-focused initiatives. As a cultural organization, TSA works tirelessly to enhance awareness and appreciation of Taiwan's diverse heritage, traditions, and contemporary culture through events, creative projects, and educational programming.

The organization recognizes that international students face unique challenges when relocating to a new country and campus. TSA addresses these needs by offering comprehensive support covering everything from pre-arrival preparation and immigration matters to housing, banking, healthcare, and social integration. Beyond practical assistance, TSA fosters genuine community through regular social gatherings and cultural celebrations that bring Taiwanese students together while inviting the broader Champaign-Urbana community to learn about Taiwan. Led by passionate student volunteers and supported by dedicated faculty advisors, TSA remains committed to its founding mission of creating meaningful connections and celebrating Taiwanese culture within the UIUC community.
