About Texas Sunshines
Founded with integrity and character in the Spring of 2017 by Ingrid Earls, Alyx Tighe, and Dana Lucas, Texas Sunshines has grown into a thriving spirit group at the University of Texas at Austin. What began as a founding class of eleven remarkable women has evolved into an established organization that continues to welcome diverse students seeking genuine connection and belonging in the Austin, Texas community.
At its heart, Texas Sunshines exists to provide UT students with a home away from home—a place where authentic friendships flourish and lifelong memories are created. The organization's founding vision centered on bringing together likeminded young women and non-binary individuals who value sisterhood, celebrate school spirit, and contribute meaningfully to their community. This mission remains as vital today as it was during the organization's inception.
Members consistently describe Texas Sunshines as a transformative experience that shapes their entire college journey. Students appreciate the organization's emphasis on genuine connection and acceptance, where members are valued for who they truly are rather than who they might pretend to be. The welcoming environment encourages out-of-state and local students alike to build professional networks, develop leadership skills through executive board opportunities, and discover their place within the broader Longhorn community.
The organization's three pillars—sisterhood, spirit, and service—work in harmony to create meaningful experiences. Through social events, university engagement, and philanthropic partnerships like their work with the Sexual Violence Prevention Association, Texas Sunshines members develop into engaged citizens committed to positive change.
Texas Sunshines represents a legacy of inclusion, empowerment, and community impact, offering Austin students an opportunity to build authentic relationships while contributing to something greater than themselves.
