About Texas Women's Lacrosse
Texas Women's Lacrosse represents a vibrant student-led community at the University of Texas Austin, where female athletes come together to share their passion for lacrosse and build lasting friendships. Founded in 1993, this organization has grown from a small group of enthusiastic students into a respected athletic program that welcomes women of all experience levels, from seasoned high school players to those discovering the sport for the first time.
What sets Texas Women's Lacrosse apart is its emphasis on values and personal development. The team seeks athletes who demonstrate not only athletic ability but also commitment, integrity, and strong character both on and off the field. Members of the Austin-based organization provide all administrative support through volunteer leadership positions, making decisions collaboratively about the team's direction and priorities. This player-centered governance model ensures that every voice matters and that the team evolves according to its members' collective vision.
The program thrives on a culture of inclusivity and mutual support. With typically 25 members on the roster, Texas Women's Lacrosse creates an intimate community where athletes develop deep connections while pursuing competitive goals. The team competes in the Texas Women's Lacrosse League against regional rivals like Texas A&M, Baylor, and others, and has earned recognition through five state championships and multiple appearances at the WCLA National Championships. Operating as a club sport at UT Austin, the organization relies on a combination of institutional funding, player contributions, and community donations to sustain operations, reflecting the shared investment its members have in their sport and each other.
