The Japan-America Society of Alabama
About The Japan-America Society of Alabama
Founded in 1989 by visionary business leaders in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, the Japan-America Society of Alabama represents over three decades of commitment to building genuine friendship and understanding between the American and Japanese communities. JASA emerged from the recognition that successful international business relationships require more than marketing strategy—they demand cultural understanding, educational awareness, and authentic personal connections. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit has grown from a small group of founding members into a comprehensive organization that welcomes businesses and individuals from all sectors who share a passion for strengthening U.S.-Japan relations. The organization's mission centers on creating meaningful opportunities for both American and Japanese residents of Alabama to develop lasting professional and personal relationships. JASA's approach is holistic, addressing social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions of international exchange through responsive programming that evolves with changing times. Members benefit from a supportive community of like-minded professionals, access to cultural festivals including Tanabata and Kayoubikai friendship meetings, and opportunities to participate in internship and educational initiatives. What distinguishes JASA is its deep roots in Alabama's business community—virtually all original founding member organizations remain active participants today. By fostering a congenial climate for Japanese business investment while promoting American business opportunities in Japan, JASA has become an indispensable bridge between two nations. The organization continues its legacy of cultivating enriching international relationships that benefit the entire Vestavia Hills and Alabama region.
