Commemoration of The Right Reverend John Thomas Walker
The African American Episcopal Historical Collection invites you to the Commemoration of the Rt. Rev. John T. Walker, 6th Bishop of Washington, at Virginia Theological Seminary on September 24, 2026. This annual observance will include a Commemorative Eucharist and the Walker Symposium, with this year’s theme focusing on the life and work of Black lay theologian Verna Dozier. Symposium Theme: The Life and Work of Theologian, Verna Dozier
1 pm - Discussion Panel with Dozier's editor, Cynthia Shattuck, L.H.D., and the first Black female tenured professor of VTS, the Rev. Judy Fentress-Williams, Ph.D.

3 pm - Keynote Address by the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church
