Torrington Unico
About Torrington Unico
Since 1922, when Dr. Anthony P. Vastola and 14 other founding members established UNICO in Waterbury, Connecticut, the organization has grown into a powerful force for good across the nation. The Torrington Unico chapter carries forward this legacy of service and community commitment in Torrington, CT, staying true to the original vision of placing community welfare above all else. The name UNICO itself—Italian for 'unique' or 'one of a kind'—reflects the founders' belief that an organization devoted entirely to service rather than fraternity alone would be truly special. Over a century later, Torrington Unico continues to unite Italian Americans and motivate community members to become more civically engaged. The organization's four pillars—charitable works, educational support, patriotic service, and community building—remain as vital today as they were at UNICO's inception. Members of Torrington Unico understand that meaningful change requires personal sacrifice and dedication to something greater than oneself. By joining Torrington Unico, you become part of a proud tradition of service that has touched countless lives and strengthened communities throughout Connecticut and beyond. This is more than just an organization; it's a family united by shared values and a commitment to making Torrington and the surrounding region a better place for future generations.
