About Tyler Area Gays
Founded in May 2008, Tyler Area Gays represents a grassroots movement built on compassion, solidarity, and the transformative power of community. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, TAG serves as a welcoming sanctuary for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender individuals, and straight allies throughout East Texas, with deep roots in the Tyler community. At its heart, TAG embodies the principle that we accomplish far more together than we ever could alone, drawing energy from selfless love and understanding that everyone deserves a helping hand and sympathetic ear when needed. The organization's vision centers on creating spaces where all individuals feel free to be themselves without fear of repression or judgment, fostering an environment of mutual respect and genuine connection. TAG's core values emphasize the inherent dignity of all people, the importance of working together with mutual trust, and the necessity of honest, unbiased communication as the foundation for understanding. The organization celebrates the rich diversity of cultures within its community while actively working to educate families and neighbors about LGBTQ+ issues and experiences. By standing against hate and violence—whether physical or emotional—TAG demonstrates commitment to protecting human and civil rights. Through its multifaceted approach combining support services, educational programs, community outreach, and advocacy work, TAG continues to make meaningful differences in the lives of individuals and families throughout Tyler, TX, creating a more inclusive and compassionate East Texas region for everyone.
