“Ukrainian Poetry Outburst"

About “Ukrainian Poetry Outburst"

Hosted by Virlana Tkacz with Gogo Bordello's Eugene Hutz, master bandura player Julian Kytasty and others

A rare event at the historic Ukrainian National Home will see the power of poetry confront the world of war. Virlana Tkacz, founder of Yara Arts, La Mama’s resident Ukrainian-American theater company, will host an afternoon dedicated to Serhiy Zhadan and other poets in Ukraine, performed in Ukrainian and English by Gogol Bordello lead-singer Eugene Hutz and bandura maestro Julian Kytasty. Poets Alvin Eng, Bob Holman, and Wanda Phipps will respond with their own work. Downtown diva Susan Hwang will premiere a new song based on a poem by Zhadan. And, conditions permitting, Zhadan himself will join us virtually from Kharkiv.
