Unico Highland Beach
About Unico Highland Beach
UNICO Highland Beach represents a proud tradition of Italian American civic engagement rooted in nearly a century of community service. Founded in 1922 in Waterbury, Connecticut, UNICO was established by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola and 14 fellow community leaders who envisioned an organization that would place service to others before personal gain. The name UNICO, meaning 'unique' in Italian, reflects the founders' belief that this organization would stand apart by prioritizing community welfare and civic responsibility. Today, the Highland Beach chapter in Delray Beach, FL, continues this legacy by uniting Italian Americans and motivating them to become more civically engaged. The organization's values—Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity, and Opportunity—guide every initiative, from annual scholarship programs supporting higher education to cultural events that celebrate Italian heritage and strengthen community bonds. Members of UNICO Highland Beach are united by shared values and a commitment to making tangible differences in people's lives, whether through fundraising for charitable causes, supporting music therapy programs at local hospitals, or organizing community celebrations. The chapter welcomes individuals who embrace the spirit of service and wish to connect with like-minded community members in Delray Beach. Since its inception, UNICO has demonstrated that meaningful change comes through dedication, sacrifice, and collective action focused on helping others rather than personal advancement.
