Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) is a student and faculty organization at the University of Southern California that champions equal opportunity in science and engineering through innovative programming and community support. Located in Los Angeles, California, WiSE represents a 25-year commitment to transforming the landscape of scientific careers for women and creating a more inclusive research environment across all disciplines.
Founded in 2000 with a transformative $20 million endowment gift, WiSE was established with the primary mission of contributing to equal opportunity in tenured and tenure-track faculty positions within science and engineering. The program recognizes that building a thriving scientific community requires intentional support at every career stage—from undergraduate researchers to established faculty members. By fostering a supportive culture and developing fresh approaches to institutional policies, WiSE enables scientists to advance their careers while remaining connected to the USC community.
