About UT Austin Sigma Lambda Alpha
Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Incorporated represents a vibrant community of Latina women at the University of Texas at Austin, built on a foundation of authentic sisterhood and shared values. Founded in 1992 by seven visionary Founding Mothers who sought to create a unique space for Latina women in higher education, the organization has grown into a meaningful presence serving the Austin, TX campus and surrounding community. The Elite Eta Chapter at UT Austin embodies the sorority's original mission: to unite women through bonds that rival those of family, while advancing sisterhood, community service, cultural awareness, and academic excellence.
What distinguishes Sigma Lambda Alpha at the University of Texas at Austin is its deep commitment to celebrating Latina culture and identity while fostering genuine connections among members. The organization recognizes that membership extends beyond social engagement—it represents a lifelong commitment to supporting one another through academic pursuits, personal growth, and community contribution. Members, known affectionately as Señoritas Latinas en Acción, participate in recruitment events, community service initiatives, and campus activities that reflect their values and strengthen their bonds.
The sorority maintains an active, welcoming presence in the Austin community, regularly hosting recruitment events and engaging with prospective members who share their vision. Through their officers, dedicated members, and organizational structure, Sigma Lambda Alpha continues the legacy established by its Founding Mothers. For students in Austin seeking meaningful sisterhood grounded in cultural pride, academic support, and service to others, the Elite Eta Chapter represents a community dedicated to empowering Latina women and creating lasting impact.
