About UT Austin Undergraduate Korean Association
Founded in 2019, the Undergraduate Korean Association (UKA) represents a thriving student-led movement dedicated to preserving and celebrating Korean culture within the Austin, Texas community. As one of the largest non-profit student organizations at the University of Texas at Austin, UKA has grown into a welcoming space where students and community members of all backgrounds can connect with Korean heritage and build meaningful relationships.
At its core, UKA's mission centers on protecting and promoting diversity and inclusion through the diffusion of Korean culture and language. The organization explicitly welcomes everyone—regardless of ethnicity, Korean language ability, or cultural background—creating an intentionally inclusive community where curiosity about Korean culture is the only requirement for participation. This philosophy has fostered a supportive environment where members develop lifelong friendships and professional networks alongside their cultural exploration.
UKA's community-building approach extends beyond traditional meetings through specialized affinity groups and activity clubs. Members can participate in sports teams, family-style mentorship groups called Famfams, and interest-based clubs known as Dongaris. All general meetings are conducted bilingually in English and Korean, with members actively supporting one another through translation and language support.
The organization's commitment to its members extends into practical support, offering job boards, internship opportunities, housing resources, and educational connections that strengthen the broader Korean American community in Austin. Through events like the K-festival and regular internship panels, UKA creates platforms for professional development alongside cultural celebration. This holistic approach—combining cultural preservation, community connection, and practical support—has established UKA as a vital organization serving the Austin area and embodying the values of diversity, inclusion, and mutual support.
