Women in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas Austin represents a vibrant community built on the foundation of peer support, mentorship, and shared professional growth. Established in Spring 2016 by six freshman women who recognized the absence of a dedicated support network for female civil engineering students, WICE has grown into a meaningful organization that transforms the undergraduate experience for women in the field.
The story of WICE reflects a simple but powerful insight: despite civil engineering having the highest proportion of women among engineering disciplines at UT Austin's Cockrell School, female students still felt isolated and disconnected from one another. This realization sparked the creation of a space where women could build genuine relationships, celebrate their achievements together, and navigate the challenges of engineering education with trusted peers by their side.
Today, WICE serves the Austin, Texas community of undergraduate women in civil engineering by fostering an inclusive environment free from barriers to participation.
