Founded in 2006 by a dedicated group of Vietnamese American attorneys, the Vietnamese American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, DC Area represents a unique professional community built on the belief that the strongest bonds are those combining genuine friendship with professional excellence. VABA-DC was formally established in 2007 with a clear mission: to promote professional growth for Vietnamese American attorneys, encourage Vietnamese American students to pursue legal careers, and serve as an authentic voice for the local Vietnamese American community.
What distinguishes VABA-DC within Washington, DC's legal landscape is its commitment to remaining engaged with community needs while advancing within the mainstream legal profession. The organization recognizes that professional success and community responsibility are not mutually exclusive but rather deeply interconnected. Since its inception, VABA-DC has cultivated a welcoming environment for attorneys and law students of all backgrounds who share the association's values and mission.
The organization demonstrates its community commitment through meaningful action, including annual scholarship programs honoring law students who have served or plan to serve the Vietnamese American community. VABA-DC's history includes hosting landmark events, such as its inaugural scholarship dinner in 2009 attended by approximately 120 attorneys, law students, and community leaders. As one of only four Vietnamese American bar associations nationally and the only one on the East Coast, VABA-DC stands as a testament to the professional and personal connections that define the Vietnamese American legal community in Washington, DC.
