About Vietnamese American Initiative for Development

Founded in 1994 by dedicated community leaders and residents, the Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (VietAID) embodies a vision of building a strong, vibrant Vietnamese community in Dorchester, MA. The organization emerged from a belief that comprehensive community development programs could effectively alleviate poverty while advancing civic participation in the Fields Corner neighborhood. At its heart, VietAID's mission centers on four core commitments: promoting civic engagement and community building, developing affordable housing and commercial spaces, providing small business technical assistance and micro-enterprise development, and delivering high-quality child care services. Over three decades, VietAID has demonstrated unwavering dedication to its community through meaningful achievements including the creation of family child care micro-enterprises since 1997, youth after-school and summer programs that enrich educational experiences, and annual Tet New Year and August Moon celebrations that bring hundreds of residents together. The organization's work extends beyond economic development to address pressing community needs such as foreclosure prevention support for homeowners and occupational health advocacy for workers in nail salon and hardwood floor finishing industries. By fostering homeownership, supporting small business owners, and creating safe gathering spaces, VietAID continues to revitalize Fields Corner as a thriving neighborhood where Vietnamese families and residents can build prosperous futures together.
