Since its founding on October 10, 1922, Waterbury Unico has represented a unique vision of community service rooted in Italian American heritage and civic pride. The organization was established when a dedicated group of 15 men, led by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola, came together with a singular purpose: to create a service organization that would place community welfare above all else. What began as The UNICO Club in Waterbury, Connecticut, has evolved into a respected chapter of UNICO National, embodying the Italian word 'unico'—meaning unique and one of a kind. The founders believed that true service required sacrifice, not for personal benefit, but for the greater good of others. This philosophy continues to guide Waterbury Unico's work today, as members unite to support charitable causes, advance educational opportunities, and strengthen civic engagement throughout the Waterbury community.
