About Black Women's Health Imperative
For 38 years, Black Women's Health Imperative has served as a transformative force in the Atlanta, GA-based movement to improve the lives of Black women and girls nationwide. As the oldest national organization dedicated exclusively to this mission, Black Women's Health Imperative has built a legacy of advocacy, education, and systemic change rooted in the lived experiences of the communities it serves. The organization recognizes that Black women and girls face interconnected health challenges that demand holistic solutions addressing physical wellness, emotional resilience, and financial security simultaneously. Operating from Atlanta, the nonprofit brings together diverse stakeholders—from grassroots activists to health professionals—united by a commitment to health justice and equity. Black Women's Health Imperative's approach reflects deep community relationships and an understanding that sustainable health improvement requires addressing root causes of inequality. The organization empowers Black women and girls not as passive recipients of services, but as agents of their own health transformation and community leadership. Through its work spanning nearly four decades, Black Women's Health Imperative has demonstrated that when you center the voices and experiences of Black women, you create ripple effects of positive change throughout entire communities and health systems. This commitment to authentic partnership and community-driven solutions distinguishes the organization as a trusted, values-aligned partner in the ongoing struggle for health equity and Black liberation.
