Founded in 1987 by a visionary group of Portuguese seniors in Vancouver with the guidance of a dedicated social worker, the Portuguese Cultural Centre of British Columbia has blossomed into a cherished Burnaby, BC institution serving over 1,600 community members. What began as a modest weekly gathering of 16 seniors at Trout Lake Community Centre—where members paid just $100 monthly for a room and enjoyed $2 meals while playing cards, dominoes, and exercising together—has evolved into a registered provincial foundation with a permanent hall and comprehensive community programming.
