Eidsvold Lodge 7-53, Sons of Norway Victoria, was founded in 1946 by a dedicated group of local people of Norwegian heritage under the leadership of Ella Moeskau. The lodge was named after Eidsvold, the Norwegian city where the Constitution was signed on May 17, 1814, reflecting the organization's deep commitment to preserving cultural identity and traditions. What began as a small community gathering has evolved into a thriving cultural center serving Greater Victoria for nearly 80 years. The physical home of the lodge, Norway House, tells a story of community determination and growth—originally a one-room schoolhouse purchased in 1947, it has been thoughtfully expanded over decades to accommodate the expanding needs of members and the broader community. Today, Norway House stands as a testament to the dedication of countless volunteers who have maintained and developed the facility while serving as a gathering place for cultural celebrations, social events, and community activities. Sons of Norway Victoria welcomes individuals of all backgrounds who wish to connect with Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage, learn about modern Norway, and contribute to meaningful philanthropic work that strengthens the community. Operating as a volunteer-driven non-profit in Victoria, BC, the lodge continues its original mission of building community while honoring the legacy of its founders and the vibrant Norwegian-Canadian culture they established in this region.
